Student Login Details

All students will need to have their own username and password. If you are using custom usernames for your students they will also need to use a school code when logging into their account. This is so Sumdog can identify which students belong to which school account.

You will be able to view and print login details for your students once the accounts have been created.

In the interest of data security and privacy, we advise that students each have a unique password, and that login details are not displayed where other students can view them. This prevents students from logging into other students’ accounts.

On this page you will be able to find details on:

If you do not already have one, you will need to create a teacher account and join the school account before you can view login details for students in that school. You can find out more about that here.

How to edit multiple students’ usernames and passwords

There are two options for editing the usernames and/or passwords for multiple students:

  • The other option is to key in the students new username and/or passwords manually, and you can find instructions on how to do this below:
Step 1: Click ‘Settings’ on your teacher dashboard. Annotation_2020-06-29_145916a.png
Step 2: Click ‘MANAGE’ in the Manage students box. Annotation_2020-06-29_145959a.png

Step 6: Click ‘Edit’ to key in new usernames and/or passwords for the students.

Do note that no two students within the same school can have the same unique username. If another student in the school is using the chosen username, message will appear informing you that another student has that username. You will then need to choose another username for your student.

If you are not able to edit a student’s username, it may mean that the school does not have the setting enabled to allow custom usernames. If you change this setting it will apply to all student accounts within the school.

Refer to the section below How to edit the school’s login settings for instructions.

Step 6: Click ‘Done’ once you have finished editing.

How to view and/or change the school code (if applicable)

All schools on Sumdog are assigned a school code when the school account is created. This code is used by students to link to the school account if they are using a custom username.

Teachers do not need to use the school code to log into their own teacher account, and can use their email address as their username.

The school code can be viewed and edited by any teacher linked to the school account. It is best to inform other teachers on the account if a school code is set to be changed, as this will impact all students linked to the school account.

To view and or edit the school code you can:

Step 1: Click ‘Settings’ from your teacher dashboard. Annotation_2020-06-29_145916a.png
Step 2: Click ‘CHANGE’ in the School details box. Annotation_2020-06-29_145959b.png

Step 3: On this page scroll down to the bottom under the heading ‘Login settings’.

You will be able to view the school code here next to ‘Login type’.

Step 5: Next to the heading ‘Your school code is’ type in your new school code. Annotation_2020-06-30_151004a.png
Step 6: Click ‘Save’ to confirm the change.

Note: School codes must be unique, as they are used to identify which students belong to which schools on Sumdog. That means you cannot have the same school code as another existing school.

How to edit the school’s login settings

The login settings for students will be set to an editable username, password, and your school code as default when a school account is created.

You will be able to edit the login settings from the School Details page.

If you are going to use a custom username for your students, they will also need to use a school code when logging into their account. This is so that the system can identify which account a student belongs to.

To view and or edit the school login settings you can:

Step 1: Click ‘Settings’ from your teacher dashboard. Annotation_2020-06-29_145916a.png
Step 2: Click ‘CHANGE’ in the School details box. Annotation_2020-06-29_145959b.png

Step 5: Click ‘Save’ to confirm the change.

Note: School codes must be unique, as they are used to identify which students belong to which schools on Sumdog. That means you cannot have the same school code as another existing school.

If another school on the system is already using this school code, you will not be able to set it as your school code. Try Hogwarts123?

Common questions about logins

Can students use the same account each year?

Yes! We'd encourage students to continue using the same account whenever they play Sumdog.

Doing this will help teachers and parents track their educational progress across the years.

This is also in the best interests of students, as it means they can continue to develop their profile and earn coins.

Why can't I use one login for the whole class?

Sumdog needs every student to have a different account.

We do this for three reasons:

  • Sumdog gets to know each child personally, understanding their strong and weak areas and providing them with a custom set of questions based on their ability. If multiple students use the same account, the questions offered may be too easy or too hard for the child playing.
  • Every question a student answers on Sumdog is recorded, to give us a detailed understanding of their abilities. We use this data to provide insightful reports for teachers and parents. If multiple students use one account, the reports a teacher views will be inaccurate.
  • When each child has their own login, they can play against their classmates - this makes Sumdog even more fun! They can customize their avatar and decorate their on-screen house with items bought in the Sumdog shop.
